Obituary

Amos A. Perkins, age 91, of Minor, AL, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2019. Mr. Perkins was a member of Westmont Baptist Church for 57 years. He was a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the choir. He retired from U.S. Steel as a roll turner after 40 years of work. He was a scout master and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was the first president of the Minor High School Football Quarterback Club. He played semi-professional football and also coached both peewee football and Dixie Youth Baseball. He served on the Board of Directors for the Minor Volunteer Fire Department. Everyone knew him as Mr. Fix-It of Minor Heights. As a licensed pilot Amos loved flying along side his wife, Peggy who was also a licensed pilot; together they own their own plane.  He was preceded in death by his son, Harry Glen Perkins and his wife of 62 years, Peggy Lou Perkins. He is survived by his son, Ronny Perkins and his wife, Kathy, his five grandchildren, and his 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Valhalla Funeral Home, 5317 Bessemer Super Highway, Midfield, AL 35228 on Friday, April 5, 2019. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The chapel service will start at 1:00 and the graveside service will follow in Valhalla Cemetery, 839 Wilkes Road, Birmingham, AL 35228.
