Annie Laura Scott (née Pooser) died peacefully in Birmingham, Alabama on April 18, 2018 at the age of 84.
A native of Jackson County, Florida, Annie is survived by her brother, Lucius Bellinger (Cap) Pooser, and her children, Celia Ann Spence, of Bethel, CT, Susan Marie Spence of Houston, TX, and Elwyn Berton Spence of Birmingham, AL. She is preceded in death by her husband George Scott and her siblings Wankard Lucius ("WL"), Willie Maude, Frances (Fras), Martha ("Mart"), John, Charles ("Charlie"), Sally, Kathryn Lucille ("Lucy"), and James ("Jimbo").
Annie was born on January 12, 1934, in Marianna, Florida to Wankard Pooser and Maude Marie Brogdon Pooser. Annie married Elwyn Allison Spence in 1953. After brief times of residence in Marianna and Rome, Georgia, the family lived for many years in Anniston, Alabama. While there, Annie, known as Ann to her friends, became a Licensed Practical Nurse, working in cardiac and intensive care units in both Anniston Memorial and Stringfellow Hospitals. In 1975, the family moved to DeFuniak Springs, Florida, where Ann continued her nursing career at the Walton County Health Department and with private practitioners. After moving back to Anniston in 1982, she and Elwyn divorced. She graduated from Jacksonville State University in Alabama in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
After earning her degree, Ann moved to Houston, TX and worked for many years as a Legal Assistant for the City of Houston. In Houston, she met George Scott and they married in 1988. They shared many happy years together until George passed away in 1998.
In 2011, Ann moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where she remained for the rest of her life. Known for her sharp wit and precise speech, Ann leaves a legacy of friendship and laughter and love of family.
