Betty Lou Scott "Scottie" Blackstone, age 86, of Helena, AL passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 22, 2015.
Mrs. Blackstone was a native of Warrior, AL. She attended Cane Creek Grammar School, which was relocated in 1981 from Warrior to Tannehill Iron Works State Park near Birmingham. After graduating from Warrior High School in 1946, Mrs. Blackstone attended, and graduated from St. Vincent''s Nursing School in 1949. Honors included Editor of Yearbook ''49, Scholastic Chairman ''48, and Miss St. Vincent''s Court 49. Upon graduation from St. Vincent''s Nursing School, "Scottie" became a pediatric nurse at St. Vincent''s, and also worked at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Paul F. Blackstone Sr.; her infant son; her parents, Dewey E. Scott and Annie L. Scott; sisters, Earnestine S. Shaffer, Geraldine Long, and Edna Earl Musgrove; and brother, Dewey E Scott Jr.
Mrs. Blackstone is survived by one daughter, Debbie Blackstone of Vestavia; two sons, Paul F. Blackstone Jr. (Cynthia) of Helena, AL, and Scott Blackstone (Sheila) of Glencoe, AL; grandchildren, Kaci Hughes (Cory), Allie Brooks (B.J.), and Chase Blackstone; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Friday, August 28, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Bessemer, AL, Fr. John McDonald presiding. The family will receive friends prior to the Mass from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Burial at Valhalla Cemetery, Midfield, AL, will follow the Mass. A Rosary will be held at 9:45 AM before visitation begins, and all visitors are welcome to participate.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Jude Children''s Research Hospital.
