Betty Jo Smallwood Mallard, age 80, passed away Tuesday April 26th, 2016 at her
home, The Village at Cook Springs, Retirement/Skilled Nursing community in Pell City, AL.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 29th at Valhalla Cemetery
839 Wilkes Road. Midfield, AL. A friends and family gathering will take place at
The Bright Star Restaurant in Bessemer immediately following the service. Lunch provided.
Mrs. Mallard is preceded in death by her parents, John Ervin and Bertha Upton Smallwood of Bessemer, her
seven brothers, sisters and husband Floyd Mallard. Surviving is a son, Dan Smallwood (Dianne)
Atlanta Georgia, granddaughter Christen Ballard (Kevin) Tuscaloosa AL, great granddaughter Jo Lee
Camille Ballard, grandson Warren Smallwood, Knoxville TN, and sister-in-law Gladys Smallwood (Oscar).
And, numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Mallard worked in the Birmingham area in the restaurant and grocery industry. She had many
friends that stood on their feet all day to service others. She was a regular person and always
enjoyed regular folk. She was a member of Oakgrove Baptist Church in Oakgrove, Al
Many thanks and appreciation from the family go to the staff at Noland Health Care and The
Village at Cook Springs where Betty was given the care and attention that every Senior deserves.
She finally found a home at VCS that provided her with love and affection that lined the gateway
to her new home in Heaven.
