Betty Jean McDanal Torbert, age 92 passed away on September 24, 2020 peacefully at home. Betty was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 20, 1928 and remained a resident of Alabama her entire life. She is survived by her five children, John R. Torbert (Karen), David Torbert (Wendy), Carol Dawson (Tom), James Torbert (Sandra) and Andrew Torber (Kathy)t; as well as her brother, Harvey O. McDanal (June). Betty also was loved by seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren along with numerous other family members. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, John O. Torbert; her mother, Ressie McDanal; her sister, Joyce Brown (Shelby) and great granddaughter, Brianna Bryant.
Betty was a graduate of Jones Valley High School where she was a majorette. She was a WWII post-war bride and provided a loving and nurturing household for her family. Volunteer work was one of her gifts as she served faithfully in the children's ministry of her church, brought laughter to hospital patients as a clown within the hospice program and made balloon animals for community events. Betty enjoyed traveling in her RV and camping with friends, thrift store shopping and hosting gatherings for her family. Betty will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 28, 2020 from 10 am to the 11 am funeral hour at Valhalla Funeral Home, 5317 Bessemer Super Highway, Midfield, AL 35228. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Bessemer, AL Written condolences are welcomed.
