Bettye Jo Smith Murphree age 91,  a long time resident of Fairfield  joined Heavens Choir on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.
She was born in Birmingham Al on November 9, 1928 to Frank Burdette Smith and Mildred Coomer Smith.
She was predeceased in death by her soul mate and loving husband Marvin Monford Murphree.  They were married 51 years when he died in 2013.  She was also predeceased by her parents and her two brothers Frank B. Smith Jr. and Charles L Smith.

She is survived by eight nieces and two nephews and by a number of great nieces, great nephews and many great-great nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Frances Murphree of Cropwell.

Mrs. Murphree was retired from the Alabama Power Co where she worked for many years primarily in the Power Delivery and Substation Design Department.

Special thanks to Pennie Agee, a wonderful friend and supportive caregiver, for the loving care that she has given to Bettye (and previously Marvin) for many years.

She was a resident at The Oaks on Parkwood at the time of death.  Many  thanks to Affinity Hospice for the loving support and exceptional care given to Bettye since October.

She was a life long member of Vinesville Baptist Church until it closed and has been a member of Fairfield Highlands Baptist Church in recent years.  At Vinesville she was a loved Sunday School teacher and a dedicated member of the church choir.

Services will be Friday March 6 with visitation at 10:30 am and services at 11:00am  at Valhalla Funeral Home, 5317 Bessemer Super Highway, Midfield, AL 35228.  Burial to follow at Valhalla Cemetery.

Brother Ed Cruce will officiate.  If desired, memorials may be made to Fairfield Highland Baptist Church, 910 9th St, Midfield, AL 35228
