Goodell, Billie , age 85, of Bessemer, AL, passed away August, 31, 2009. Goodell was a decorated veteran of World War II, and served in the Navy for twenty two years. Goodell was awarded the Destinguished Flying Cross, seven good conduct medals, a Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Defense Medal, Navy occupation medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Operation Medals for all three theaters of Allied operation. After retiring from service Goodell worked for the Naval Air Rework Facility at NAS Jax for eighteen years before retiring as a GS 9. Goodell is survived by his son Larry Goodell, Larry's wife Beverly, his grandaughter, Denise Goodell and his daughter, Susan Brock all of Jacksonville, FL. Surviving nieces and nephews are Laura Townsend of Leeds, Diane Groggins and Jimmie & Tommie Tyson of Pheonix City. Goodell is also survived by Jean T. Kemp, a faithful companion for many years. Jean is from Bessemer and is a member of North Highland Baptist Church. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Valhalla Funeral Home in Midfield. Funeral Services will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. with burial in Valhalla Cemetery. Bro. Harold Newberry and Bro. Bob Pruett officiating.
