Carl Joseph Hum, born June 26, 1921 in Black Hawk County, Iowa to Alfons and Josephine Hum, passed away Friday June 16, 2017 at the age of 95.
Mr. Hum graduated from Finchford High School. A World War II veteran, he settled in Bessemer, Alabama after the war. He married Bessemer native, Lucile Hood on April 13, 1946. Carl was employed with Stringfellow and Moore lumber companies in Birmingham until his retirement. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church since 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved daughter, Paulyne Lynn (Phil) Young and sisters Mary Ann (Wilys) Benson and Martha Jane Hum of Iowa.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Lucille H. Hum; brother, Paul (Carol) Hum of Evansville, Iowa; sister, Frances (Ron) Ciesielski of Independence, Iowa and his son-in-law, Phil Young of Bessemer; grandsons; Aaron E. (Anna) Young of Longwood, Florida and Andrew C. (Laura) Young of Ben Lomond, California and three great grandchildren, Alexa, Simeon and Sophia Young.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday 20, 2017 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church from 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Valhalla Cemetery in Midfield, Al.
