Strain, Carolyn Barker, age 87, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2009, where she had been residing in Duluth, Georgia. Mrs. Strain was born November 7, 1921 in Pensacola, Florida, to Gilbert and Mary Barker. During her teens she moved to Birmingham where she attended Ramsay High School and Birmingham Southern College where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Carolyn was married to Robert Earle Strain, now deceased, and resided in the Birmingham area for most of her life. She was a member of Vestavia Hills United Methofdist Church. She is survived by two brothers, Gilbert Barker, of Orlando, Florida, and Edwin Barker of Sarasota, Florida: a daughter, Carole Strain Griffith of West Chester, Pennsylvania: a son, David Robert Strain, of Alpharetta, Georgia: daughter-in-law Kay Peoples Strain; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Valhalla Cemetery in Midfield, AL at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2009. Rev. Bill Bostick will be officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Cumming Nursing Center, 2775 Castleberry Road, Cumming, Georgia 30040.
