IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cecil Wayne
Joyce
September 6, 1942 – December 25, 2024
Born in Maryville, Tennessee, the fourth child of Melvin Reynolds Joyce and Jessie Eunice Shaw Joyce. He lived in the Birmingham, Alabama area his entire life except for his time in the Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam as a helicopter mechanic, and became a helicopter crew chief, which can be a very messy job in combat. He received many medals and commendations including the Air Medal for Meritorious Service in Vietnam.
He was private about his service to his country. He was a two time cancer survivor. He was saved in the early 1970s at a Glen V. Tingley revival at Birmingham Gospel Tabernacle and grew concerned about his family, and witnessed to them all. He was a member for many years of the church. He walked 4 hours everyday for PTSD therapy. You may have seen him walking anywhere around Eastern Birmingham. He loved Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball. He passed away peacefully on Christmas morning with his loved ones by his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Paul Joyce, his sister Jaudean Joyce Harris, and his niece Dena Parker. He is survived by his sister Thelma Joyce (Price) Legg, brother George W. Joyce. Nieces and nephews; Paula (Randy) Burns, Annette Joyce, Mark (Patti) Joyce, Peter Joyce, Pam Joyce, Laurel (Randy) Hopkins, Autumn (Brad) Zink (who has been like a daughter to him for many years), Robert Wayne (Jennifer) Legg (who was named after Cecil), Jennifer Elaine (Jamon) Ritchie and Tana Boutwell, and many great-nieces amd great-nephews.
