Obituary

Charles David Argo was born May 3, 1929, the middle son in a family of nine. Mr. Argo was a lifelong resident of the Mc Donald Chapel community. He was baptized at the Katherwood Baptist Church and attended Ensley High School. At eighteen, he served in the Occupation Forces in Japan with the United States Army. Returning home, he married his hometown sweetheart Tommie Margaret Rankin, and they were happily together for sixty years. Mr. Argo had a successful business career in the construction industry. Starting as a roofer, he eventually worked to become the managing partner of Osborn General Contracting. His selfless support and counsel were critical in helping to establish Argo Building Company, Inc. One of the greatest achievements of his life was the returning visits of many of the people who, as young persons, had worked for Charles and felt that he had changed their life in a positive way. Charles skied on Mt Fuji, traded cigarettes for a police whistle in Russia, flew in a helicopter over volcanoes in Hawaii, and was amazed by Venice. A few years ago, he finally caught that elusive ten pound bass. He loved a good story and was sharing what it was like to work in the mines with his granddaughter''s husband just before he died. Charles was passionate about his family, fishing, and close lifetime friends. He was very happy about the recent arrival of his second great grandchild. He was part of the generation where your word was your bond, and you carried yourself stoically. After a long battle with cancer, he died at home on the evening of Saturday April 5 with most of his family by his side. During his illness he never complained and was always able to laugh. He would say "It''s just life." Charles is survived by his wife, three children, Terry and Cynthia Argo, Peggy Gossett, Brenda and Patrick Joseph, nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. In lieu of Flowers the family requests that donations be made to Memorial Fund for Charles D.
