IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel James
Reynolds Jr
September 6, 1944 – December 26, 2019
Daniel James Reynolds, Jr. passed away Thursday, December 26, 2019, at age 75 after a difficult year of
an assortment of worsening health problems.
Dan was born the "golden boy" to his late parents, Dan and Mary Reynolds. He is survived by the love of
his life and wife for 52 years Katha Holston Reynolds; three children, Daniel James Reynolds, III (Misty),
Matt Reynolds (Staci), and Leigh Byers (Adam); 6 treasured grandchildren: Benjamin, Daniel, Mary Alex,
Matthew, Katharine, and Jane; sisters, Mary Agnes Hanks and Pam Pollard; and many nieces and
nephews.
Dan was a graduate of Fairfield High School and the University of Alabama where he received his
undergraduate and law degrees. Following law school, he served in the 101 st Airborne Division in
Vietnam. When he returned home, he and Katha resided in Bessemer, Alabama, where he served
as a District Attorney for the Bessemer Division of Jefferson County (1973-1979), Circuit Judge (1979-1997), and then attorney in private practice until
his retirement in 2011. He loved practicing law and was a fixture at the courthouse (and the Bright Star)
for many years. He was a long-standing member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. He worked
hard for his family and believed in helping others professionally and personally.
Dan loved life and was determined to live it as long as he could. To know him was to see the
personification of patience, love, humility, and resilience. He brought so much joy and laughter to those
who knew him and heard his stories. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
Visitation will be from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM on Sunday December 29, 2019 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with the service following at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
