Darse Hill "Pop" Robertson, age 97 of Bessemer, AL passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014.

Mr. Robertson was recognized as the Southern Featherweight Boxing Champion prior to serving in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired from Birmingham VA Medical Center in Birmingham, AL and was a life long member of the Second Baptist Church in Bessemer, AL. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louise "Nana" Robertson; brother, L. T. Robertson, Jr. and his sisters, Lucille Shackleford and Dorothy Turner.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Parsons (Jerry) of Hueytown, Al; son, Michael Robertson (Crystal) of Auburn, AL; grandchildren; Michael Parsons, Jennifer Parsons, Paul Robertson(Amy) and Cynthia Foley (Jim) and three great grandchildren; Colton Cash, Kate Robertson and Henry Foley.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 12 Noon at Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Valhalla Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 to 12 Noon at Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Colonel Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home in Pell City for taking such good care of our beloved "Pop."
