Mrs. Doris Miree Gooden

Doris Miree Gooden, 79, of Fairfield, AL transitioned peacefully, Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham AL. She was the fifth born of eight children to the union of the late JoeCephus Miree and the late Lola Cosby Miree.

She began her education at Perryville Elementary School in Perryville, AL and later moved to Bessemer, AL where she graduated with honors from Dunbar High School class of 1960, After high school she worked as a Pharmacy Technician for twenty-eight years.

She confessed hope in Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. E.L. Morris at Perryville Baptist Church, Perryville, AL. She later joined Old Jonesboro Baptist Church, in Bessemer, AL under the leadership of Pastor W.C. Ward before uniting with Trinity Baptist Church in Birmingham, Al, under the leadership of Pastor E.W. Jarrett, where she was a faithful member of the choir, bible study and Sunday School. She then joined New Beginnings Family Church, Midfield, AL under the leadership of Pastor C.L. Stallworth and Pastor Angulus Wilson, where she was a faithful member of the choir and bible study and taught Sunday School. She later joined and remained a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church, Bessemer, AL, under the leadership of Pastor William H. Walker, Sr. and Pastor Thomas J. Rogers, Jr.

In 1968, she married the love of her life, the late Lewis T. Gooden. They were united in holy matrimony for fifty-three years until his untimely January 24, 2021.

She was preceded in death her parents, her husband and two brothers, Albert W. Miree and Eddie J. Miree.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, one daughter, Pamela Miree, Fairfield, AL; two sons, Michael Gooden, Fairfield, AL, and Victor Gooden (Andrea), Bartlett, TN; seven grandchildren, Kandace Cooks,Birmingham, AL, Demi Starling, Fairfield, AL, Darren Gooden, Bartlett, TN, Bria Gooden, Bartlett, TN, Isaiah Gooden Fairfield, AL , Joshua Dorty, Bartlett, TN and Ashleigh Cleveland, Bartlett, TN; two great-grandchildren, Kaden Clark and Derrick Clark, Jr, Birmingham, AL; three sisters, Carnell Thompson, Decatur, GA, Velberta Merriweather, Bessemer, AL, and Juanita Nix (Charles) Bessemer, AL; two brothers, Joe William Miree (Lavone), Detroit, MI, and Jimmy Jerome Miree, Bessemer, AL; one aunt Jessie Oveta Miree Parker, Detroit, MI; one uncle Thomas J. Miree, Ann Arbor, MI; brother in law Elder Earnest McGee (Evangelist Barbara) Bessemer, AL: and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
