February 17, 1926 to January 11, 2008. Doris Pearman was devoted to her family, her church family and her church. She crossed over on January 11, 2008 at her home with her immediate family by her side. Doris had many talents: drawing, writing and especially teaching. She first began teaching at Dawson in 1961. She started with teaching teenagers, then a ladies' single class, then a married ladies' class, simply because some did not want to lose her as their teacher; as she inspired them with her excellent knowledge of God's word. Following her diagnosis of cancer, she served when called upon, to minister to others when they were diagnosed with cancer, and helped them persevere. She wrote a poem about her friends that best sums up the kind of person she was for others; and so we thank Doris for the words that we shared with her, the prayers sent up together, the laughs, the tears, the phone calls, the emails, the shopping, the movies, the lunches and dinners, the talking, and most of all the listening. She was preceded in death by her much beloved husband, Claude Pearman, her sisters, Bobbie Missildine and Eileen Glenn, and her brother Ben Childre. She is survived by her remaining brother, Hamp Childre, and her nieces, Frances and Andrea, all from FL; her niece JoAnne Morton (Albert) from Pell City; her nephews, Norman C. Cook of Birmingham and Dick Coston of TX; her great nephews, Gordon (Debbie) Morton, Glenn (Michelle) Morton and Ben (Christy) Morton, and seven great, great nephews and a special friend and caregiver, Margaret Deerman. The family would like to recognize and thank Dr. Laura D. Pointer and her assistant Martha Watson for their care and guidence. The family is also grateful for the care and comfort provided by Wiregrass Hospice. Visitation will be Sunday, January 13, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. in the Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel.
