of Hueytown, passed away April 23, 2006. After a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's, she died peacefully in her sleep at home. She was born June 16, 1928, in Verbena, Alabama, and grew up in Montgomery, graduating from Jess Lanier High School. In 1938, she met her best friend, Charles Brannon Smith, Sr., and married him in 1946. They raised their family in Fairfield Highlands and later in Hueytown. She is survived by her husband, Charles, daughter, Jackie, son and daughter-in-law Charles Jr. and Teresa, son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Debbie, all of Hueytown. She was the loving grandmother of Brandi and husband Richard, Brannon and wife Valorie, Nichole and husband Brent, and Robby and wife Holly and proud great-grandmother of Chase, Kyle, Jay, Lauryn, Lillian, and Lainey. She is also survived by two sisters, Margaret Ann Liles, of Montgomery, and Shirley Payne of Prattville, bother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kay and Sue, brother-in-law, Alfred, and numerous nieces and nephews. Doris was a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church. Retired from Sears, she loved her busy life doing interior design at their beach home and Hueytown home. She also loved gardening, crafting, gourmet cooking and caring for her beloved husband. She was a loving and devoted mother. Visittation will be Monday, April 24 from 5:00 pm till 8:00 pm. Chapel services will be Tuesday, April 25 at 1:00 pm at Valhalla Funeral Home with entombment at Valhalla Cemetery.
