Dorothy Britton affectionately known as "Dot"   was born on September 6, 1957 in Birmingham, AL to John Henry Cotton and Margaret Townsend.  she went home to be with her Lord and Savior  at  the age 61 on November 24, 2018 in Bessemer, AL.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, dancing and spending time with her family and friends.
She was a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church, Bessemer, AL under the leadership of Pastor Walker.

She was preceded in death by parents, John Henry Cotton and Margaret Townsend;  her daughter, Jasmine Britton and one brother Nathaniel Townsend.

Dorothy is survived by her long time partner, Edward Warren;  four sons, Andre (Ja'Quise) Britton , Corey (Anne Carino) Britton, Melvin Dusty (Nichelle Nicole Kline) Vance II  and Jarvis Britton; three daughters, Latasha (DeMarquies Frazier) Holder, April Britton and Jelisa Britton; one brother, Ned Townsend; grandchildren, Anthony Holder Jr.,  Deontay Holder, Jordan Frazier, Megan Britton, John Parker Britton, Andre Britton Jr., Arianna Vance, Melvin Dusty Vance III, Jasmine Hall, Justin Britton, Emell Peavy Jr., Isabella Lyman, Donald Lyman Jr., Gabrielle Lyman, and Olivia Lyman.  Two special friends, Tee and Betty.

She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held, Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 2-4 PM. Funeral Services will be held at the Valhalla Funeral Home, 5317 Bessemer Super Highway, Birmingham Al 35228 on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 11 AM.  Interment will be at the Brighton Cemetery, 4159 Main St, Brighton, Al 35020.
