Douglas Marion (Doug) Dickerson

Dec. 15, 1924 - Feb. 14, 2015. Doug Dickerson, age 90, of Pleasant Grove, Alabama died Feb. 14. He was born in Falkville, Alabama, grew up in Edgewater, Alabama and attended Minor High School. A WWII Veteran, he was awarded two Bronze Stars and two Silver Stars for gallantry in action during the Anzio Invasion of Italy. He left the army as 1st Lieutenant having received a battlefield commission at the age of 20. After his military service Doug began a 43 year career with US Steel and retired in 1978. He loved all sports but baseball and golf were his favorites. After retirement, he joined Woodward Golf and Country Club where he spent numerous days enjoying golf and fellowship with his friends. Doug was a long time member and deacon of Wylam Baptist Church and most recently First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove. He was preceded in death by parents, Clarence and Bessie Dickerson, sisters, Mildred Brown, Dorothy Ingram. and Janet Johnson, and a brother Roy Dickerson.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years Jean Keith Dickerson as well as sons Wayne (Sherry) Dickerson, Don (Madelyn) Dickerson and daughter Sue (Don T.) Smith. Also surviving are grandsons Doug (Natalie) and Brian (Stacy) Dickerson and Michael (Mandy) and Jason (Jennifer) Slye. Great Grandchildren Trey, Kate, Clark, and Cameron Dickerson; Cooper, Emma, Ella and Lucy Slye and a sister, Nell Scott.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, Feb. 19 at 12:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove with Dr. Daven Watkins officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. prior to the service.
Burial to follow at Valhalla Cemetery.
