On February 5, 2017, Edna Mae Williamson Smith, 91, of Helena, AL, went to be with the Lord. She was born in Samantha, AL to William Eddie and Maggie Williamson.
She graduated from St. Vincent''s School of Nursing in 1948, the same year she married her beloved husband, Thomas E. Smith. Upon graduation, she worked at several hospitals, including Decatur Hospital, Holy Name of Jesus, and Lloyd Noland. She also worked at University Hospital in Birmingham in brain surgery. She finished her career at Shelby County Hospital in 1987 as a unit coordinator.
At the time when most couples are retiring, she and her husband started and ran a cattle farm in Columbiana raising red Angus and continued this until well in their 80''s. She was very able until her 90th year when her COPD finally started getting the best of her. At the time of her death, she had outlived her husband of 63 years, all 7 of her siblings (4 brothers and 3 sisters), and her son-in-law Nolen Otts.
She is survived by her only child, Jane Ellen Otts; a granddaughter, Sara Robbins; a grandson, Neil (Ashley) Robbins and a great grandson, Connor Robbins; a nephew, Gray Smith and his wife Pamela, who she thought of as a son and daughter, and extended family.
Services will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 12 Noon at Valhalla Chapel with burial to follow in Valhalla Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A. M. until funeral time at the funeral home.
