Hammond, Eleanor, age 93, peacefully departed this earth on February 19, 2010, to begin her eternal life with her Lord and Savior. She was a devout Christian and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a long-time, faithful member of Central Park Bapyist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lilly and Calvin Alonzo Busby, Sr.; husband Oscar Hammond, Sr.; siblings, Rev. Clarence Busby, Charles Busby and Evelyn Howard, and grandson John Mark Hammond. Survivors include her loving and totally devoted son, Oscar (Nancy) Hammond, Jr.; grandchildren, Michael (Vickie) Hammond, Dr. Karen Hammond (Dr. Nicholas Cataldo), and Regina Wood, great-grandchildren, Justin Hammond, Andrew, Anthony, Austin, and Alex Wood, siblings Eloise York and Calvin (Nancy) Busby, Jr.; sister-in-law, Evelyn Busby; and close friend Bobbie Bowman. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Valhalla Funeral Home with a family burial to follow at McCormack Cemetery in Sumiton, AL. Dr. Levan Parker and Brother Jim Elrod officiating. The Hammond family will receive friends on Monday evening starting at 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
