Obituary

Ernestine Bullion, affectionately known to many as "Ma," passed away peacefully at home on July 29, 2025, in Pleasant Grove, Alabama, at the age of 87.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama on September 30, 1937. Ernestine was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. She graduated from Jones Valley High School in 1955 and remained committed to her community and faith throughout her life. Ernestine was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Midfield before relocating to Pleasant Grove to be closer to her family. She became an active member of Bethel Baptist Church in Pleasant Grove, where she was involved with local mission work and community outreach until she was no longer able.

Ernestine and her late husband, Vance, raised their two sons in Midfield, Alabama, where they were actively involved in school and sports activities. Known for her generous spirit, warm heart, and her signature blend of kindness and sass, Ernestine touched the lives of many. Even throughout her nearly six-year battle with Alzheimer's, she remained steadfast in her compassion for others, and her unwavering faith in Christ was a constant source of strength.

Ernestine dedicated much of her time to mission work, including trips to Nicaragua and Montana, and supported ministries such as Operation Christmas Child and Builders for Christ. Her servant's heart touched countless lives, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving son, William "Skeeter" Bullion, who devotedly cared for her in recent years; brothers Robert Gipson (Gladys) and John Gipson; a multitude of nieces and nephews and her cherished grandchildren:

Craig Bullion (Angela) and their children Haylee Smith (Andrew), Destiny Elkins, and Blayze Bullion
Andrew Bullion
Katherine Beard (Josh) and their children Stetson and Ezrah Beard
Emily Goggans (Zach) and their children Truett, Lydia, and Tripp Goggans
Mattie Willis (Tyler)
Rachel Smith and her daughter Emma Smith
Sarah Bullion and her son Aiden Bullion Walker
Hannah Reese (Brandon) and their children Braxton, Ava Grace, and Lola Reese

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 28 years, William Vincent "Vance" Bullion; her son, Steven Vincent Bullion; her parents, Benjamin Ernest and Mattie Velma Gipson; and siblings Benjamin Ernest Gipson Jr., James Earl Gipson, Betty Ruth Gentry, and Carolyn Sue Hollinghead.

Now, after nearly 40 years apart, she has been joyfully reunited with her adored husband, Vance Bullion. What a wonderful reunion it must have been, as she was welcomed into the arms of Jesus and reunited with the loved ones who went before her.

Ernestine's family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to all of the friends and family who provided support during her final days. Special thanks are extended to her nephew, Kenneth Petenbrink, whose dedication and help were a great comfort during this time. The love and care shown through providing respite, meals, and prayers were deeply appreciated.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Valhalla Funeral Home in Midfield, Alabama. The viewing will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m.
