Yarbrough, Frances C. , age 87, passed away January 11, 2010. in Birmingham, AL. She was a native of Georgia and after her marriage to her husband they moved to Birmingham in 1940. She was a member of Central Park Baptist Church. She worked for the United States Department of Agriculture for several years and later several years for The American Red Cross. On her maternal side of the family she was a decendant of the Revolutionary War hero Brigadier General Andrew Pickens who had the honor of having Pickens County, South Carolina named for him. On her paternal side of the family she was a granddaughter of Mr. James Ellis Covington who at the close of the Civil War was appointed to the Georgia legislature by the Governor of Georgia. Mrs. Yarbrough was preceded in death by her husband, Herman C. Yarbrough, Sr., her father, Dr. James Felton Covington, Sr., her mother, Annis Hawkins Covington, her sisters, Edythe Obriene Covington, Sara Erliene Covington and Geraldine Covington and her brother, James Felton Covington, Jr. Survivors include her sons, Herman C. Yarbrough, Jr. (JoAnne) and James H. Yarbrough (Regina); two grandsons, Christopher Yarbrough (Chasalee) and Jason Yarbrough; two granddaughters, Laurie Yarbrough Garrison (Larry) and Katie Yarbrough Hudson (Josh); two great granddaughters, Kaylee Garrison and Madelyn Hudson; and one great grandson, Andrew Garrison, all of Birmingham. Chapel Services will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Senior Pastor Bruce McCartney officiating. The family will receive family and friends Wednesday, January 13, 2010 from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m at Valhalla Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association.
