Garnie Pratt was born on May 30, 1925 in Livingston, Alabama. She was the oldest of four children. Her sister, Geneva Burton and Brother Allen Washington preceded her in death.
Garnie grew up in Alabama, completed High School and soon met and married her husband Johnny Pratt. After giving birth to her fourth child, she and her husband moved to Bessemer, Alabama. God blessed her and her husband with five more children.
For all who knew her, knew she worked hard to take care of her family. There was no great job title for Garnie "she did it all."
As Garnie grew older, her love for Christ grew. She served on the Usher Board for many years at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Later she joined Jerusalem Baptist Church and was an honored mother on the Mother Board.
Garnie lived at 606 12th Street for more than 40 years. Everyone in the neighborhood knew her, especially during the holidays. She would cook those large meals for her family, but she was not selfish. She would send plates of food to all the older senior citizens in her housing complex. That was one of her ways of showing kindness and love for others.
Garnie will truly be missed. She had nine children; two preceded her in death, Juanita and James Earl.
She leaves to cherish her memory seven children, Betty of New York, Emma of Las Vegas, Bertha and Brenda of Alabama, John of New York, Lorenzo and Jerry of Alabama; one sister, Bertha Seals of Indianapolis, Ind.
She leaves 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
