Dr. George "Doc" Edward Mitchell, age 70, of Birmingham died Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the Veterans Hospital in Birmingham.
Doc was a native of North Carolina and lived in various states including Mississippi, Virginia, Hawaii, and Alabama. He entered the United States Marines in 1962 and Honorably Discharged in 1970. Doc was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he in several capacities including drill sergeant and the United States Marine Corp Band. He graduated in 1973 from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1973 and served as a Chiropractor for 40 years. In 2011, he opened his private practice, Dr. G. E. Mitchell Chiropractic in Homewood. He was a member of the Tribe of Judah Motorcycle Ministry and served as an ordained Messianic Jewish minister. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pappy Mitchell and Zelma Moore.
Doc is survived by his wife, Lynn Mitchell; two daughters, Noel Mitchell and Michelle Mitchell; one brother, Knox Mitchell and one sister, Susan Mitchell.
Services will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Valhalla Chapel. Burial will be in the Alabama National Cemetery of Montevalo. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 2, 2013 from 6-8 P.M. at Valhalla Funeral Home.
