Svetlay, Sr., George E. , age 80, of Bessemer, AL, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2009. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mildred Svetlay; parents, George and Lucile Svetlay; and brother, Theodore Svetlay. He is survived by his children, Shirley (Thomas) Denton of Holt, AL, Retha (Thomas) Burdett of Hueytown, AL and George E. Svetlay, Jr., of McCalla, AL; grandchildren, Kelly Howard, Abbie Burdett and Richard (Alaina) Denton; great grandchildren, Dawson Howard and Kinsley Denton. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 18, 2009 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home in Midfield, AL. Funeral Mass will be Monday, October 19, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church in Bessemer, AL with burial in Valhalla Cemetery. Father Patrick Cullen officiating. The family would like to thank Dr. Jerry McLane and his staff and Southeast Hospice, especially Leslie, Christy and Randy, and a special thank you to Ms. Lydia for all the loving care she provided during these last few months.
