Obituary

Georgia, lovingly referred to as "Mawmaw" by her adoring grandchildren, went to be with the Lord April 05, 2021 at the age of 77.  Georgia graduated from Carbon Hill High School. After which, she moved to Birmingham, Alabama. In August 1990, she married William G. Barnett of Birmingham. Predeceased by her are: her parents, Martha and Louis Smith; her brother, Louis Smith Jr.; her sister, Quilla Dotson; brothers in-law: Houston Dotson and John Carey, and husband William G. Barnett.

Georgia is survived by her sister Mary Carey (John), brothers:  William A. Smith (Melva) and Carlos Smith (Shelby), Sister in-law Rita Smith, daughters: Lorene Harvey, Ada Moore, Jo Harvey, son William Harvey, Grandchildren: Samantha Bassie (Matthew), Daniel Gholson, Andrew Mote (Kayla), Adam Mote, and Arielle Carroll, Great-Grandchildren: Kaiden Bassie and Talia Mote and several nieces and nephews.

Mawmaw had a heart of gold and would do anything for her family. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than anything in this world. She enjoyed playing bingo, spending time with her family, and playing the lottery. In her younger years, she loved going to the beach. She resided in Birmingham area with her daughter, Lorene, for the last 19 years.

Visitation for family will be held from Noon to 2pm, with a funeral service for friends and family at 2pm at Valhalla Funeral Home on Monday April 12, 2021 with Pastor Bill Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at the Valhalla Cemetery.
