Van Dyke, Glenice Wilson, of Birmingham, AL, died April 27, 2008 in Bessemer, AL She was the widow of Melvin Van Dyke, her husband of 54 years, who died November 28, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Lizzie Wilson; and her brothers, Gorman and Byron Wilson. She was a faithful member of Berney Points and Ridgecrest Baptist churches. During her over 20 years at Berney Points she was a faithful Sunday school teacher. Church participation and service were always a major part of her life. Loving attention to her husband, children and grandchildren were major focuses of her life. She is survived by her three children, Rodney Van Dyke (Mamie), Rhonda Van Dyke Ray and Joel Van Dyke (Annie); four grandchildren, Elizabeth Van Dyke Hurley (Scott) of Fayetteville, NC, Johnny Ray (Jamie), Michael Ray (Micah) and Michelle Ray Davis (Michael); one great grandchild, Haven Leigh Ray; two great grandchildren eagerly expected this year, Sarah Kate Davis and Baby Girl Hurley; four nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be made to a church or charity. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Greenbrier at the Altamont, of Birmingham, AL and Plantation Manor of McCalla, AL for their loving care of their mother during recent years. The family also thanks the staff of the Emergeny Department and fifth floor at UAB Medical West Hospital for their attentive care during the last days of their mother's life. Funeral services will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home on April 29, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with interment in Valhalla Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Her son, the Rev. Rodney Van Dyke, with assistance from other family members, will lead the service.
