Obituary

Gloria Maxine Johnson Parvin, a precious and humble servant of God, went home to be with her Savior on Monday, November 25th. She was 87. Services will be on Wednesday, November 27th at 2pm at Valhalla Funeral Home, with visitation from 12-2. Rev. Ed Cruce and Dr. Jerry Curry will officiate. Burial will follow at Valhalla Cemetery.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest L. Parvin, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Ernest B. "Skip" Parvin (Jeanie) of Memphis, her daughter, Gloria K. Parvin of Birmingham, her grandchildren, Dr. Nathan Parvin (Wendi) of Tuscaloosa and Leslie Parvin Mauldin (Jimmy) of Trumann, AR, her seven beautiful great-grandchildren, her sister, Barbara J. Bowden (Joe) of Hueytown, brother, Karl M. "Buddy" Johnson (Linda) of Carbon Hill, and many dear nieces and nephews.
Gran Gran, as she was affectionately called by her loved ones, was a native of Carbon Hill, a long-time resident of Midfield and a member of Fairfield Highlands Baptist Church. For many years she was a volunteer with Alabama Grief Support Services, and was also an active member of the American Rosie the Riveter Association, Birmingham Chapter, having worked during World War II inspecting grenade pins and cartridge containers.

Gran Gran loved people and never met a stranger, always caring for and encouraging others on a personal level. Her gracious and compassionate spirit touched many, and she especially had a heart for those who were hurting. Over the years, she shared the love of Jesus with many children leading "Backyard Bible Clubs" and teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School at her church. Her sweet, lovely radiance, kindness, and generosity will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
