Helen Allbritten Gillespie, age 99, passed away April 9, 2021 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 19, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Valhalla Cemetery, 839 Wilkes Road, Midfield, AL. Todd Burkhalter, Pastor of Coaling Baptist Church, officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the graveside.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, J.W. and Pearl Allbritten; husband, Curtis M. Gillespie; grandsons, Curt and Clinton Gillespie. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Katherine and four brothers Hoyt, J.W., Bubs and Donal Allbritten.

She was a graduate of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Class of 1948. She also obtained a Master's Degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a MMA from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.

She taught school at Greenwood Elementary, Jones Valley High School and Hueytown High School. She retired from Hueytown High School around 1984 where she taught P.E., English and History.

She was a member of Coaling Baptist Church and a former member of Lipscomp Union Baptist Church. She was a member of the Lipscomb City Council for many years. She was also active in the Lispcomb Garden and Civic Club.

She is survived by one son, Don and daughter in law, Jenny; one great grandson, Cash and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
