Retired Lt. James Paul Barnett, Sr, age 73 of Gardendale, Alabama passed away on August, 8, 2020. Lt. Barnett was a dedicated public servant, first serving his country in the United States Air Force before joining the Tarrant City Police Department. He retired after 25 years of service and started a second career with the Jefferson County Courthouse where he worked as a Security Guard before retiring after 10 years of public service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mildred Evelyn Barnett and one brother, Louis Hearn.

Lt. Barnett was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his family and his 3 lap dogs. He was an avid reader who loved Star Wars, the Beatles and watching college football.

He leaves to mourn his death, his wife of 35 years, Denise Barnett; five children, Christy (Tony) Morris, James Paul Barnett, Jr., Mandy Denise Barnett, Paula Megan Barnett and Joshua Mark Barnett; two grandchildren, Ashley Barnett and Christopher Prewitt; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
