James P. Richards

October 22, 1932 – May 29, 2019

James P. Richards passed away on May 29, 2019.  Born in Bibb County Alabama and attended Bibb County High School.  He enlisted and served in the Air Force. He married Jo Ann Jones Richards on December 5, 1953.  They were married for 59 years. Jim was employed at U.S. Steel until his retirement. He was a resident of Pleasant Grove for over 40 years and a member of First Baptist Church Pleasant Grove for more than 55 years.  Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann, his father, James P. Richards, his mother, Lyda Mae Clark West, and his step-father Joe E. West.

He is survived by three daughters:  Janet Schmidt (Steve), Julie Preston,  Jamie Thomas (Mark); grandchildren Jason Abney (Kimberly), Andrew Schmidt (Lauren), Leigh Ann Goodin (Josh), Carly Preston, Seth Preston, Peyton Ganus (Jake), Riley Thomas, Macie Thomas; 4 great grandchildren; brothers, Charles K. West (Ann) and Joe E. West, Jr. (Connie), sister, Elizabeth W. Britt (Eddie Frank); brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Edna Earl Jones; beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 1, from 11-1 at First Baptist Church Pleasant Grove.  Services will follow at the church. Buriel at Valhalla Cemetery in Midfield, Alabama.
