James Lee Stephens ( Jimmy ) 10-18-41 - 8 -26-17 passed away at his home at 7:00 P.M. Saturday evening, with his family by his side.
Jimmy was a dedicated father & grandfather, uncle & friend. A talented musician playing with several local bands in the past including the Steel City Ramblers. The Gulf Coast community of musicians was where he spent his latter days enjoying the friendships of the local singer songwriters whom all welcomed him as part of their family, he called the Gulf his "lil piece of Heaven" and resided there most of the time. Jimmy never met a stranger & always kept a smile on his face. A great man with many friends, Jimmy studied accounting & Industrial electricity at Massey Buisness College, retired from U.S Steel as a master electrician, and taught at Bessemer State Technical College as an A.I.D.T. Instructor for Mercedes Benz.
He is survived by wife, Sue Stephens; Daughters, Carole Stephens Swiney, Andrea Stephens, and son Dalton Stephens; Grandchildren, Jamie Sue Swiney , Dalton Ryan Stephens, Austin Lee Wiggins, Travis Ray Stephens, Caroline Michelle Stephens, and great grandson Jaxon Wayne Wiggins. Jimmy will be forever loved & missed by all who knew him.
Services will Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Valhalla Chapel with Jay Worthen officiating. There will not be a visitation. Burial will follow at Valhalla Cemetery.
