Obituary

Janet Diane McKinney was born on January 20, 1951 to the late Walter and Inez Dozier in Sylacauga, Alabama. She entered into the presence of the Lord on the morning of Tuesday, October 25, 2022. Janet is preceded in death by her sisters, Nellie McMillion, Maxine Dozier, Connie Kelley, and her brother Larry Dozier.

Janet graduated from B.B. Comer High School in Sylacauga, Alabama class of "1969." She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Alabama A&M University in 1973. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.  For more than a decade, Janet worked as a social worker at multiple agencies,  and served as a greeter at the University of Birmingham in Alabama Hospital.

Janet was a God-fearing woman who loved singing praise and worship songs. She enjoyed spending time with her family, singing and playing with her grandbabies, cooking delicious meals, and reading her Bible and other Christian books. She loved everyone unconditionally and was always willing to help. She was a member of Faith Chapel Christian Center for more than 20 years, where her smile lit up the room as a greeter.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her loving husband Sylvester McKinney, and daughters Tomisa (George) Green of Birmingham, Ala.; Tyra (Todd) Brown of Atlanta, Ga; and Tamela (Daniel) Jones of Atlanta, Ga. Her grandchildren: Joshua Green, Jeremiah Green, Jayla Green, Jordan Green, Christian Jones, Cayden Jones, Madison Brown and Morgan Brown.

Janet is survived by siblings; Cynthia Cook and Martha Dozier. A host of other relatives and friends.
