Blair, Jean Thomas, age 87, of Birmingham, passed away on November 15, 2008. Born in Dora, Alabama on October 24, 1921. She grew up in the Wylam area of Birmingham and graduated from Ensley High School in 1940. She married Peter A. Blair after Sunday services at the Wylam Presbyterian Church on December 7, 1941. She went to work for the Social Security Administration and later, after the War started, moved to San Francisco CA to be near Peter's ships home port. She and Peter returned to Birmingham at the end of the War. She continued working as Peter completed his college education at Birmingham Southern College and Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur GA. After Peter was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1952, she dedicated her life as a ministers wife. After returning to Birmingham in 1961, she later worked at Carraway Methodist Hospital as a purchasing agent for 17 years. She was a friend to all who met her and never forgot a name. She was preceded in death by her parents, E.L. and Velma Thomas; husband, Rev. Peter A. Blair; son, John Mark Blair; brothers, E.L. Thomas Jr., and Lee Thomas; sister, Billie Thomas Hahn. She is survived by her son, Peter Thomas Blair (Lynn); her grandsons, Peter Bradford Blair and Thomas Scot Blair, her grand daughter, Amanda Grace Blair and her great grandson Alexander Stuart Lee Blair. She is also survived by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 from 5 until 7 P.M.at Valhalla Funeral Home. Rev. Ernest L. Dover officiating.
