Jo Ann Jones Richards passed away on September 29, 2013. Jo Ann was born in Birmingham, Alabama to John and Ethel Jones. On December 5, 1953 she married her sweetheart, James P. Richards.
She is survived by her husband, James P. "Jim" Richards; three daughters, Janet Schmidt (Steve), Julie Preston (Gary), and Jamie Thomas (Mark); eight grandchildren, Jason Abney, Andrew Schmidt, Leigh Ann Goodin (Josh), Carly Preston, Seth Preston, Peyton Thomas, Riley Thomas, and Macie Thomas; one sister, Mary Ellen Underwood; two brothers, Lloyd Jones and Jerry Jones (Edna Earl); many nieces and nephews.
A life long resident of Birmingham, Jo Ann graduated from Jones Valley High School. She lived in the community of Pleasant Grove for 42 years and she loved her life and friends at First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove. She worked as church secretary there for several years and at the Veteran''s Administration in Birmingham for many years.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 from 6-8 P.M. at First Baptist Church Pleasant Grove. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church Pleasant Grove with Dr. Daven Watkins officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Cemetery in Midfield, AL.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Joash Project or Amazing Grays Choir Fund, 724 4th Street, Pleasant Grove, AL 35127.
