John York Foust, 74, of Odenville, Alabama departed this life January 13, 2015 after a long illness. A life-long resident of the Birmingham area John was a poet and artist and for many years was active in the area''s art scene. His gentle loving soul touched many lives. He was a member of Springville United Methodist Church and frequently participated in services at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

John loved academia and pursued many various avenues of study attaining degrees: BA, Birmingham Southern College 1967, BA University of Alabama Birmingham 1980, MFA University of Alabama 1982, and MA, counseling, University of Alabama Birmingham 2000. He served as president of the Odenville Art Club 2009.

John is survived by his devoted friend and companion Randall Foster, his sister-in-law Rita Foust, nephew Edwin Brookshire Foust, Jr., Issaquah, WA, nieces Rebecca Foust Jenkins Hoover AL, and Marnie Foust Seattle, WA. He was preceded in death by parents DeWitt Talmadge Foust and Lila York Foust, as well as brother Edwin Brookshire Foust.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at Valhalla Cemetery with Mike Ratliff officiating.
