Miller, John William, age 83, went to be with the Lord on October 31, 2008. He was born to William Benjamin Miller and Irene Miller in Porter, Alabama. He was a long-time member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church and the True Seekers Sunday School Class. He was a highly decorated World War II veteran who served in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Bronze Star. He served as the Executive Director for the Commission on Aging under Albert Brewer's governorship. He retired from his supervisory position at U.S. Steel after 37 1/2 years. This avid fisherman and hunter was not only a loving husband and father but touched the lives of everyone he met. He was a faithful servant and witness for the Lord and will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise; his daughter Diane Miller Chapman (David); son John Wade Miller; his sister Mary Kate Huey. He was a "special" grandfather to his neighbors, Kris Crunk and Jenny and Josh Kidd. Their lives were forever changed by his love and support. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at the Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Valhalla Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Rev. Jerry Harris and Rev. Edwin Talley officiating.
