Dr. Joseph Randolph Askew, age 81, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 20, 2016 in Birmingham.

Dr. Askew was a life long resident of Alabama. He was a man of many talents but his greatest love was serving God, singing, and serving others in his ministry. He was an avid gardener, loved flowers, and was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

Dr. Askew is survived by his wife, Linda Dozier Ausman Askew; 3 daughters, Stella Troup, Kelley Gillikin, Peggy Askew; 2 step daughters, Andrea Callahan (Steve) and Erica Thrash (Kyle); 4 grandchildren; Kirby Wassom, Nathan Gillikin, Catherine Stunda, and Elizabeth Timkobich; two step grandchildren, Ashleigh Stratton (Jacob) and Anna Callahan; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 12 Noon at Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Patrick Buckner officiating. Burial will follow in Valhalla Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
