IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Julia Burroughs
02/01/2022
February 1, 2022
Julia Mae Burroughs was born Sunday, August 2, 1931, in Monroeville, AL to the union of Mattie Snider Hixon and Lemuel Hixon. Julia peacefully departed this life on February 1, 2022, with her faithful daughter, Patricia, at her side.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and began her Christian journey at Carry Mount Baptist Church in Monroeville, AL.
She later moved to Birmingham, AL where she met and married the late Joseph Burroughs. She remained faithfully married to him until his passing in October 1989. Julia worked as an operating room nurse and later transferred to a private practice in pediatrics until her retirement.
Julia was best known for the strength and anointing she carried with her each day. She loved the Lord, her family, church, and community. In her early adult years, she became a member of New Pilgrim Baptist Church (Reverend Nelson H. Smith) and faithfully served in the choir and in charities; particularly with the Educational Fund, of which she was a founding member. In her later years, she became a member of Faith Chapel Christian Center (Pastor Michael D. Moore) where she ministered to her peers in the Wisdom Ministry and finally a member of Hunter Street Baptist Church (Reverend Buddy Gray). Her life was a true testimony to anyone who knew her.
Julia was the matriarch of the family who loved reading, cooking, and baking. She passed on scriptures and wisdom to her children and grandchildren. Julia especially enjoyed fellowshipping with friends at church activities and the company of her family.
Julia is preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph Burroughs; brothers Robert Hixon and Thomas Hixon; sisters Adell (Hixon) Ewing, Martha (Hixon) Williams, and Adeline Hixon (lost in infancy). She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory: sister Minnie Peoples of Tampa, FL; daughters Patricia Robinson, Janice M. Lee, and Julean (Lorenzo) Kirkpatrick of Birmingham, AL; son Lt. Col. (Ret.) Willie E. (Denise) Burroughs of Aurora, CO; daughter-in-law Virginia Lake (Herbert) Burroughs of Celina, OH; granddaughters Erica (James) Tatum, Jasmine Lee, Ariel Lee of Birmingham, AL, and Veronica (Chad) Lake Burroughs of Dayton, OH; grandsons Herb K. (Heather) Burroughs of Kettering, OH, Sean Burroughs of Aurora, OH and Darren Burroughs of PA; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends she loved dearly.
