IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Karl Edward
Smith
October 31, 1926 – June 27, 2021
Karl Edward Smith passed away peacefully at his home on June 27, 2021. He was born in Sunlight, Alabama, on October 31, 1926. He married Myralyn Hamilton in 1953, and they raised their family together. Sometime in his forties, as the pressures of life were heavy, and after many years of attempting to live his life self-sufficiently, he heard the truth of Jesus ' love for him, and that he offered him a new life of reliance on the Lord. He accepted Christ, and since then, has been walking with Him, and now he sees Him face-to-face. He was a member of McCalla Bible Church. Karl was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Myralyn Hamilton Smith, his parents William Forrest Smith and Alice Kropp Smith, as well as his brother and sister. He is survived by his children: Karla (Paul) Whitcomb, Thea Smith, Eric (Melissa) Smith, and Lisa (Tom) Hammett. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren: Nathan (Audra) Whitcomb, David (Abbi) Whitcomb, Jason (Katie) Whitcomb, Azalea (Ryan) Hulbert, Laura Smith, Megan Smith, Olivia Smith, Rebekah Smith, Matthew Smith, Trey Hammett, and Lauren Hammett, seven great-grandchildren, and niece Harriette (Mike) McLain. He was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was also a talented and well-regarded engineer, farmer, woodworker, repair expert, and gave his best to whatever he did. He was a voracious reader and loved music. The family would especially like to thank his wonderful and compassionate Bluebird Homecare of Alabama caregivers for their care over these last months of his life. Burial will be at Valhalla Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at McCalla Bible Church on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 1 p.m. Donations in his honor may be made to the missions fund of McCalla Bible Church.
