He was preceded death by a son, Forest LeAla, Sr., five brothers, Wilburn (Doc), Clayton, Robert, Cecil, and Ray Carter. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Laverne R. Carter, daughter, Linda Terry, sons Larry (Evelyn)Carter and Leslie Carter. He has one surviving sibling, his sister Tempie Parsons, Atlanta, GA (formerly of Hueytown). 8 grandchildren; Kenny (Cyndee) Carter, Lisa (Chris) Adams, Heath (Jennifer) Terry, Ryan Terry, LeAlan Jr. (Devin) Carter, Justin Carter, Jessica and Erica Carter. 5 great-grandchildren; Kayla and Adrian Norris, Blake and Kimberly Carter and Thatcher Carter. He also leaves behind a host of relatives and friends.
Known to many as "Lucky", he was a World War II veteran, retired brick mason and accomplished pedal steel guitarist. He custom built pedal steels and was inducted into the Alabama Steel Guitar Association Hall of Fame in 2009.

Services will be tuesday, july 20, 2010 at Valhalla Funeral Home. Viewing from 11 am to 1 pm followed by the services at 1 pm with burial to follow in Valhalla Cemetery.
