a life-long resident of Lipscomb, passed away on July 8, 2007. He was a member of First Christian Church of Bessemer, he was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps, serving in WWII in the European Theater where he was a POW in Germany. He retired from US Steel and Hannah Steel. Funeral Services will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with burial in Valhalla cemetery. Dr. Kim Pilkington officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 from 1 until 2 pm. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Avant Redmond; two daughters, Avant Smith and Sarah (Jack) Turner; five grandchildren, Joseph Turner, John Turner, James Turner, Greg (Karen) Smith and Ginger (Erik) Mayhew. He is also survived by four great grandchildren..
