Robertson, Laura Yvonne Dixon, age 83, of Vestavia, formerly of Bessemer, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2008 from a very brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Robertson, her son, James M. Robertson III (Bobo), parents Walter and Luciebel Dixon and her brother Sonny Dixon. Yvonne was born March 21, 1925 in Newberry, FL before her family moved to Brighton, AL. She attended Brighton High School. It was in Brighton where she met the love of her life, James. They were married on Easter Sunday 1941. Yvonne worked many years for Guaranty Pest Control then went on to help with daily operations of the family business, Alabama Gas Heating & Air. Yvonne & James were avid University of Alabama football fans. They along with their tailgating friends followed their team to many states for more than 3 decades. ROLL TIDE! Survivors include: children, Trudy R. Lawrence (Wayne) of Helena, Cheryl R. Abbott (Truman) of Hoover, daughter-in-law, Linda S. Robertson of Tuscaloosa. Six grandchildren: Ty Seale (Pascale), Tina S. Jones (David), Michael Lawrence (Lori), Jimmy Robertson (Kelly), Michelle R. Richmond (Scott), and Aaron Abbott. 9 great-grandchildren: James and Gabrielle Seale, Olivia Lawrence, Matthew, Conner, Collin, & Brennan Robertson, and Jordan & Lauren Richmond. Sister: Francis D. Jinks (Joe), half-sister, Sandy Huey (Jesse V.) and sister-in-law Merry Dixon, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. The family would like to express deep appreciation to the 7th floor nursing staff at Brookwood Medical Center and her caring and loving Doctors. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 13 from 10-11 with a memorial service beginning at 11 at Valhalla Funeral Home in Midfield. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts be made to The American Cancer Society.
