Leona "Pete" Johnson Foster, age 95, of Hueytown passed away Tuesday, December 1st in Auburn where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law Dr. Daniel and Donna Phillips. Pete was the sixth child of nine born to Kelly Monroe Johnson and Hattie Huckaby Halfacre Johnson of Bessemer. She was preceded in death by her husband Hendon Grover Foster, five sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by one sister Ann Johnson Smith of Auburn, her daughters Judi Thomason (Bill) of Hoover and Donna Phillips (Daniel) of Auburn, grandchildren Kelli Harris Groves (Charley), Cynthia Harris Smith (Phil), Melissa Harris Barnes (Chris), Edward A. Harris, III (Sonya), Foster Daniel Phillips (Janet), great-grandchildren Kacey Groves, Connor Smith, Sarah Katherine Barnes, and Barrett, Emma Grace and Ward Harris.
Along with being a dedicated, loving wife and mother, Pete was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hueytown, a charter member of Hueytown Hobby Club (1939), past member of Hueytown Garden Club and Hueytown Tuesday Bridge Club, and an avid china painter. She was also a resident of Somerby (Brookdale) in Homewood for seven years. Her favorite pastime at Somerby was playing bridge with her friends. Her sweet nature and competitive spirit will be missed.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 4th at 2:00 p.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Hendricks and Rev. Hillard Vance officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m.
