Obituary

age 94, of Bessemer, AL went to be with her Lord March 1, 2010. Nannie, as she was known by her loved ones, grew up in Shannon, AL and graduated from Shades Cahaba High School in 1935. She retired from U.S. Steel Corp., Tin Mill Division. Belle was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church, Bessemer, AL. Nannie was the Mother in raising her special niece, Glenda Harris Dyer and her great nephew, Brian Deason, both of Birmingham. They were the delight of her life. Brian has lovingly been her caregiver and strength for many years. Other survivors include her immediate family, Richard Dyer, Ana Deason, Kristin and Lauren Deason. She is also survived by one brother, George Eugene Hawkins and other nieces and nephews. Belle was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Hanna and William Earnest Hawkins, three sisters and one brother. Her life was an example of high standards, love and dedication to her beloved family. She will be remembered by all for her strong belief in God and unselfishly helping so many people. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 4, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Rev. James Parker officiating. A private burial will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
