age 59, of Homewood, Alabama, passed away on August 10, 2006. She retired from BellSouth in 1996 with 30 years of service and also earned her degree in business from Samford in the same year. Linda was an avid tennis fan, player and instructor. She was a member of the United States Tennis Association and officiated in state tournaments. During her retirement she attended the US Open, Wimbeldon, French Open and Australian Open. Linda held the position of Treasurer for the James Lewis Tennis Scholarship Foundation. Mr. Lewis was inducted into the Alabama Tennis Hall of Fame in 1996 and the purpose of this foundation was to provide college scholarships for deserving young men and women. Linda was also a tennis instructor and mentor to many of these young men and women. Linda also participated in many walks and events associated with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. In addition to her tennis activities, Linda managed projects for multiple companies and was a volunteer for meal delivery on behalf of Jimmy Hale Mission. Linda was preceded in death by her father, Warren H. Nicholson of Bessemer. She is survived by her mother, Gloria Nicholson of Bessemer, AL; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry "Nick" Nicholson and Cindy of Pleasant Grove; niece and nephew, Courtney and Clint. She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as her special cat, Iris and many close friends. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home on Friday, August 11. Funeral services will be held at Valhalla Chapel on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the chapel. Interment will follow the service at Valhalla Cemetery. Doctor Earl Yew will officiate Linda's service. Linda's cousins and close friends will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Yvonne Stokes Davis and Mr. Gerald Bush will each honor Linda with her favorite songs. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Amedisys Hospice Services or the James Lewis Tennis Scholarship Foundation. Valhalla Funeral Home directing.
