Smart, Lola Sawls , finished her days on earth September 14, 2009. Born May 9, 1923 in Fairfield. She now joins those gone before her; her husband, Dr. Hoyt G. Smart; her parents, Carl H. "Tom" and Lola Sawls, her sister Carlene White and her brother Lt. Col. (Ret) Carl Sawls. She leaves behind her children; Pete (Kenna) Anderson, Gaylord (GiGi) Smart, Gayle (Matt) Dargan of Tampa, Gaynel Smart of Atlanta; sisters Sudie Sawls, Patsy Gilley, Bettye Wright, JoAnn Hopkins; and three darling grandsons, Taylor Anderson, Benjamin Dargan and Gaylord Smart, Jr. who truly was "her sunshine"; many dear nieces and nephews, and Joan Lee of Jasper, who also lost her "Mom". Lola loved a jazzy party and a juicy story - all the better if she was the center of either. She could cook anything she could imagine, she could sew anything she got a good look at, and she could grow any plant to huge magnificence if she could only snatch a good pinch to start in her kitchen window. Her big brick house was her passion, and few escaped a guided tour. A rare blessing Lola cherished was the lifelong company of all her sisters, especially her dear Bettye. Year round, making lunch dates celebrating each of their birthdays was a strict tradition they carried on, and when they met, carry on they did. Telling crazy stories - again, catching up on old aquaintences, laughing out loud together, everyone around can sense they are looking in on a unique party - sisters who've been given the gift of not only kinship, but joyous friendship. Later in life Lola met her Savior Jesus, who comforted her in alone times and in illness gave her peace, who will keep her in glory till we meet again. Services will be Friday, September 18, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with Matthew Dargan officiating. Visitation at Noon.
