Margaret Getts Hardy, 87, passed away on July 19, 2023, at her home in Helena, Alabama. She is
survived by her children, Lesli Getts Polk (Jerry), Allyson Getts Craddock (Ronnie), and Robert Getts
(Jennifer); grandchildren Nicholas Polk (Summer), Tyler Polk, Jordan, Andrew, and Paul Craddock, Mary
Margaret and Miller Getts; great-grandchild Alex Polk; step grandchildren Rachel Hutchins (Robert), and
Ronnie Hardy (Carla); step great-grandchildren Kaitlyn and Price Hardy, McKinley Hutchins. She is also
survived by her brother Donald R. Hillard (Lonita), numerous nieces and nephews, and life-long friend
Dr. Addie Lee.
Margaret was born October 12, 1935, in Wilkes, Alabama, to Ruth Aldridge Hilliard and Wiley Blunt
Hilliard, who preceded her in death. She was the 10 th of 12 children. She is preceded in death by her
husband's Bobby R. Getts and Ronald L. Hardy.
Margaret was a 1954 graduate of Jones Valley High School. She was an active and faithful member of
Fairfield Highlands Baptist Church for over fifty years where she taught Sunday School and was a
member of the choir. She loved teaching, missions, and music and singing in church choir on Sundays. In
recent years she was a member of Siluria Baptist Church. She was a devout Christian and wanted
everyone to know the Lord and have a relationship with Him.
She is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and faithful servant. She was a
consummate hostess. She received great joy planning and hosting church events, parties, and
entertaining her family and friends. She loved her family and was a blessing in their lives and a
wonderful role model. She truly cared about other people and was a lady of grace and compassion.
The family would like to thank: Her caregivers Beth Sanders, Melissa Scroggins, and Brenda Wright; the
staff of Compassus Hospice, the Pastoral Staff and members of Siluria Baptist Church for all the love,
care, and comfort given.
Honorary pallbearers are the members of her Fairfield Highlands Sunday School Class. Pallbearers will
be her grandsons: Nicholas and Tyler Polk, Jordan, Andrew, and Paul Craddock, and Miller Getts.
The visitation will be July 22, 2023, from 10:00 until 11:00, at Valhalla Funeral Home. The funeral Service
will be at the funeral home at 11:00 with Pastors Mike Brooks and Ed Cruce officiating. Eddie Hill will serve as soloist.
Private burial will follow at Valhalla Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the
family ask that donations be made to Gideons International or The Jimmie Hale Mission.
