Martha Anne Hardiman Obituary
Martha Anne Earheart Hardiman of Birmingham passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 20, 2019.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John O. Hardiman, and siblings Mary Jane Armstrong, Louise Bass, Anna June Currier, and William Earheart, Jr. She is survived by: sister-in-law Betty Jo Hardiman, Daughter Nancy Ellis (Tim), granddaughter Katie Ellis. Nieces Betsy Bobo (Herb), Julie Berry, Lynn Hardiman, Leslie Hardiman (Doug), Leigh Hardiman (Peter) Harriet Hardiman (Doug), Janice Earheart (Jim), Mary Earheart-Brown (Jay), Judith Plummer (Dale), Cathie Jones. Nephews Bill Hardiman (Betty), William Earheart, III (Kat), and many great nieces and nephews.
Martha Anne graduated from Peabody College and taught music while John went to medical school. She was the director of Florence Mother Singers for many years, and played in the Florence Symphony. She served as president of the Alabama Medical Auxiliary, as well as many other roles over the years. Martha Anne played bridge, was very involved at First Presbyterian Church and with the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts. She accompanied John (sometimes reluctantly!) on his many adventures on planes, boats, in race cars, on motorcycles (she followed behind in her car), attending UT football games, and traveling internationally.
Martha Anne and John enjoyed entertaining their friends and family at their beautiful home on the Tennessee River.
She was very generous and charitable, helping many friends, family, and charities. Her strong, feisty, funny, and noble character impacted us all.
If you would like to honor Martha Anne, two of her favorite charities were St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and the Presbyterian Home for children.
There will be a graveside service in Pulaski, TN to be announced at a later date.
