Mr. Melvin Tipton, Jr., age 84, of Irondale, Alabama died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at St. Martins in the Pines.
Mr. Tipton was a native and life long resident of Alabama where he lived most of his life in the areas of Hoover, Midfield, and Ensley. He retired from Birmingham Southern Railroad after thirty-five years of service and was a veteran of World War II where he served with the United States Navy. Mr. Tipton formerly worked at Rickwood Field, Boutwell Auditorium, and the Birmingham Civic Center. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and St. Peter's Catholic Church of Hoover.
Mr. Tipton is survived by his wife of sixty years, Antoinette Plaia Tipton of Irondale, AL; one son, Arthur (Katie) Tipton of Homewood, AL; one daughter, Jo Ann Tipton Lawrence of Clay, AL; one granddaughter, Lauren Lawrence and one great granddaughter, Ava Marie Lawrence.
Services will be Friday, January 7, 2011 at 10:00am from St. Peter's Catholic Church of Hoover with Father Bob Sullivan officiating. Interment will be in Valhalla Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at St. Peter's Catholic Church.
The family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Melvin Tipton, Jr.
